Speakers

The biggest speakers are the best, right? Wrong! While everyone loves to buy the biggest speakers they can find, that isn’t always the best choice. Music sounds different on different speakers, and your customers will all have a preference for how they want the music to sound. Some won’t care about anything but hearing the bass, but others will want the music to come out sounding clear. Different genres of music also have different tones that make them sound their best. There is no one set of speakers that will enable you to make every piece of music sound its best.

The best solution to this problem is to have a variety of speakers. In this way, you will be able to choose which ones suit the purpose of the music for a particular gig. You don’t have to invest in new speakers either. Often people get a new system or replace speakers and sell their old ones. Places like used stores, garage sales, and Craigslist are all excellent sources of used speakers. The only thing you need to do is test any speakers before you buy them. This will ensure that they work and give you an idea of the sound quality.

Keep records of what music sounds best on which speakers and that will enable you to choose the perfect ones for each gig. Spending time doing this in advance will enable you to have the perfect speakers without having to transport several sets. If possible, it is also a good idea to check out the place where you will be playing in advance. This will help you determine the acoustics, which can influence which speakers to use. Like all aspects of being a DJ, experience will make these decisions easier. After a time, this and other decisions will become second nature.
